Why do I support the LGBTQ Community?
When I came out in 1974 in New York City I didn't know much about the community outside of bars. In 1987, I was a newcomer to Los Angeles and most of the info about the LGBTQ community came from The CONEXUS Women's Center, The Lesbian News, and the Gay & Lesbian Center. My health concerns were met by the health center at the Gay & Lesbian Center in LA. In the early 1990s I became an acupuncturist, and worked/volunteered with the San Gabriel AIDS Consortium through Alive & Well/Wellness Works, and participated many times in AIDS WALK LA. My sense of community has expanded to include fun events by The Gay Men's Chorus of LA, Vox Femina LA, and Gay Pride in both LA and Long Beach. Today so much more information about LGBTQ friendly services is available through GLPages.com.
Our community has grown to include a more transgender and gender expansive population, often targeted as "other". If I didn't have access to the groups mentioned above and more, life would have been unbearable. The women's bars are gone now due to lack of interest. We need access to resources that value the LGBTQ community, whether it be attorneys, carpentry, hair care, healthcare, or electronic-tech support. I think it is essential that we support the LGBTQ community both financially and with our presence to keep our community strong, diverse, and vibrant. For other newcomers, as well as the rest of us.
Elen Lauper, L.Ac.
Being a Commissioner for the City of L.A, I receive lots of requests for reviews. I seldom write them. After our session, Elyn asked me to write one. Being a client for over 20 years, I gladly said yes!!! Over the years, Elyn has worked MIRACLES on my body. As a practitioner, she is caring, nurturing , and compassionate! I recommend her without any qualms.
I have known Elen for over 20 years. I received my first acupuncture session at the Wellness Works in
Glendale, California. Elen's attention to your concerns and in depth knowledge with acupuncture treatment is why I continued my services throughout these years. If you are searching for a practioner that will address your concerns and give you proper treatment with ease of mind than you will need to search no further. Namaste. Mike Kwan-Davis
I have seen Dr Lauper many times over the years. She always helps me no matter what the problem is - everything from migraines to IBS to 'foggy brain'. She asks good questions and really listens to the answers. She is a great acupuncturist and herbalist and I'm very grateful to have found her.
