ABOUT US
The reason this directory started is deeply personal. When I was 21, playing college football, I came close to committing suicide because I felt like I was the only person in the world like me. A crisis helpline in Green Bay, WI saved my life, and I promised myself then that if I ever had the ability, I would create a directory like this — a resource that could save another young LGBTQ+ person from ending their life, so they too could have the help I was lucky enough to find.
This directory is a labor of love, created to help others struggling with their orientation.
Thank you for advertising and using GLPages.com and downloading our Smart Phone App, OurGayApp.com.
We are smart. We are inventive. We are sisters and brothers. We are parents and owners. We are the future. We are everywhere.
We are a unique, diverse, and "invisible" minority — one that includes every race, religion, and political belief. No other group in this country, or in the world, can claim that.
I am proud to be part of this collective, unique minority. Growing up in a small town of 2,000 people (where everyone knows your name), I assumed I was completely alone. But knowledge is power, and exposure quells myths. Today, we stand openly and authentically.
We are a resource for our community — a vehicle to use our collective power. Support the businesses that support us. Without them, this directory would not be possible. We trust that our advertisers will continue to provide outstanding quality, service, pricing, and convenience for our community.
We are business professionals, doctors, lawyers, teachers, and parents. We care about our neighborhoods, schools, economy, peace, environment, education, healthcare, jobs, and safety — just like every other citizen in this country.
To protect the civil rights we have gained, we must stay engaged. Stay active in politics. Contact your representatives about the issues that affect us at 202-224-3121.
One of the biggest threats to our democracy is money in politics. The race should not go to the person with the biggest bank account, but to the person who serves "We the People" the best. We must eradicate the disastrous Conservative Supreme Court case Citizens United decision that allows unlimited corporate money through Super PACs.
Remember: Even with all the gains we've made, we can still be married on a Friday and fired from our job on a Monday.
Thank you to the users and advertisers of this directory. We've witnessed many changes in our community over the years, but none of this would be possible without you. We understand you have choices when selecting products and services, and we deeply value your decision to support LGBTQ+-owned and LGBTQ+-friendly businesses listed in GLPages.com.
I'd like to dedicate this directory to every LGBTQ+ person who has yet to come out. It can be scary, but history has shown how much living openly has strengthened our community. I also dedicate this edition to every ally who stands beside us — this is what has propelled the LGBTQ+ civil rights movement forward.
To the straight community: Get to know someone in our community. Do not fear us. Equality is a measure we must all strive for. We must never stay silent. We must stay engaged and stand up for the things that matter to all of us.
We must #RESIST and defend the rights we've worked so hard to achieve, especially now, in this critical moment in our nation's history.
We are a T.E.A.M. — Together Each Achieves More. Stay active. Do not become apathetic.
